At Companion Animal Hospital you will be working with a progressive veterinarian team that will allow you to practice forward-thinking, high-quality medicine with outstanding continued care. As an Associate Veterinarian, you will work directly with one of our two Owner/Managing Doctors and our extensive supporting medical team. Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine (DVM), State of Florida Veterinary Board License required
Committed to practicing progressive medicine and continued education, with a personal drive to learn/understand the latest in veterinarian care, practicing the highest standards of medicine and upholding the veterinarian code of ethics
Dedicated to building rapport with clients by actively listening to and empathizing with the concerns with their pet
Performs physical exams, plus soft-tissue surgery and dentistry, with the highest quality care, with emphasis on minimizing patient stress and discomfort
Possesses excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and able to speak with clients on such topics as pet diagnosis, treatment plans, preventative care and nutritional needs
Uses, maintains patient medical records via EzyVet, ensuring all necessary logs are up to date, with commitment to establish protocols
Manages time and tasks appropriately, models professional courtesy with team and clients at all times, makes decisions with confidence, works collaboratively with team members
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Comprehensive patient work ups:
Obtain complete history in conjunction with case technician
Perform thorough physical exams and document findings in electronic medical record
Appropriately recommend diagnostics based on individual patient exam findings and medical necessity
Correctly interpret diagnostic results and provide treatment options based on medical findings and best practices medicine
Make comprehensive wellness recommendations tailored to individual patient, lifestyle and needs
Client communication and education:
Always asks if client has further questions or needs before leaving the room or discharging patient
Communicate medical findings, recommended diagnostics, prognosis, and recommended treatment plan to pet owner. Document all communication in electronic medical record
Take owner financial constraints into account and provide secondary recommendations
Document any recommendations declined by pet owner in electronic medical record
Provide status reports to client on hospitalized patient's condition in timely manner
Perform timely discharge appointments, remembering to ask for any questions
Respond to client phone calls in a timely manner
Diagnostic procedures & surgery:
Performs appropriate pre-op exams and diagnostics
Practices aseptic surgical techniques
Perform spay and neuter surgical procedure with confidence
Provide specialty referral for necessary care management if client desires
Ability to use and delegate appropriate surgical prep techniques with technician
Call back clients with results of diagnostic tests and provide copy with interpretation for pet owner in a timely manner
Review discharge instructions with technician or owner
Medical Record Responsibilities:
Record patient exam findings in medical records using SOAP format
Follow AAHA guidelines for medical records
Complete records by end of workday
Fully document all patient care to ensure good case management
Document all client communications in medical record
Complete medical records in a professional and complete manner
Pharmacy duties:
Prescribe appropriate medication for patient conditions with appropriate dosing
Approve prescriptions, reviews label for accuracy
Maintain security of controlled drugs
Logs controlled substances consistently
Promotes teamwork & team efficiency:
Assist in keeping appointments running on time
Clearly communicate instructions to team in respectful manner
Is willing to assist team with their duties when needed
Communicate and document pertinent information to colleagues for efficient case management
Promote a positive attitude throughout the practice
Be available to colleagues/management when off duty for matters that cannot wait
Financial responsibilities:
Correctly estimate client invoices
Clearly communicate costs to clients
Follow hospital guidelines for client payment and credit policies
Does not waste hospital resources
Continuing Education Responsibilities:
Regularly attend outside CE meetings for a minimum of 15 hours/year
Share information gathered at CE meetings with colleagues
Assist in teaching at team meetings when called upon
Assist with mentoring and training team members
Attend at least 80% of on-site team training and/or meetings

Education and/or Experience:
Veterinary medical degree (DVM) from accredited college or university and current Florida veterinary license and DEA registration must be maintained. Must demonstrate desire to continue learning in veterinary care and participate in leading team training.
Language Skills:
Ability to type medical records and correspondence legibly and thoroughly. Ability to read and interpret documents such as laboratory reports, medical records from other doctors, hospital policy and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of clients or employees of the hospital. Ability to graciously deal with client complaints. Ability to successfully communicate with diverse personality types.
Computer Skills:
Must be proficient with basic computer, fax and printer operations. Able to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet. Experience with EzyVet veterinary software helpful.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as drug dosing, oxygen levels, dilutions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must possess solution-focused problem-solving skills.
